Cannabis Reports In brief From Coast To Coast

Cannabis, both medical and otherwise, seized the announcements many times in the week. State legislatures continue to battle over whether their states should permit the legal distribution of medicinal weed thru the employment of authorised medical weed dispensaries. While Vermont will consider its position this week in a state where medical marijuana has been legal since 2004, the Delaware senate overpoweringly authorized the legalization of medicinal herb for their state, though the legislation albeit "has flaws." Vermont Senate Bill Seventeen will now go to the House and if authorised will permit prescriptions for sufferers of harsh conditions like cancer or HIV to obtain medicinal herb from state-lisenced dispensaries. The bill passed by a margin of 18-3.
Washington's state capital saw a proposed statewide bill legalizing medicinal weed, House Bill 1550, dead on arrival as it was not able to pass commitee, by its cut off point. The measure, vigorously supported by the town of Seattle would have allowed legalization and a 15% taxation on medical pot products controlled by the state Liquor Control Board.
Meanwhile, an emotional debate exploded in Montana's Senate resulting in a 29-21 vote to repeal their medical weed law, which at last count was given approval by 62% of voters in that state. Initially missing its key cut off point, suspension of Senate Bill 423 will require a two-thirds House majority for suspension.
In Idaho, another north state, public review hearings were held the week of March to figure out the feasibility of House Bill Nineteen, which would permit Idaho's chronically and seriously sick to use medical cannabis to treat particualr medical conditions on the advice of a doctor. The hearings were the first ever granted in the state for marijuana legislation.
The state of Michigan which has already legalized medical herb, reports that investigations to the Michigan State University's extension service per medicinal weed cultivation have barely increased since legalization was implemented.
In Illinois, economic hemp was on the program for the production of green products like ethanol, clothing, cosmetics and paper. Though the proposed hemp production would be of low-THC varieties, Illinois was having none of it. Ironically, hemp products and fiber could be traded in Illinois, but only if these products are imported. Reportedly supported by the Illinois Farm Bureau, House Bill 1383 seems to support dying farm revenues where hemp-based products are imported to the tune of just about $30 billion per year.
Across the united states, Apr 1 marked a medicinal weed landmark on the East Coast where the 1st medicinal cannabis dispensary opened in that area in Frenchville, Maine. Appearing as any other neighborhood home, Safe Alternatives is necessary by the state to keep floodlights and camcorders running 24 hours a day. Maine could set case law for other medical pot clubs to open in eastern states.
